Goshen — the fertile Nile Delta region where Israel sojourned, and a district in southern Judah
Goshen names first and foremost the lush eastern delta of Egypt that Joseph secured for his father's family (Gen 45:10; 46:28–34; 47:1–6). Sheltered from the plagues that struck the rest of Egypt (Exod 8:22; 9:26), it became a symbol of divine protection amid judgment. A secondary Goshen appears in the southern hill country of Judah — both a district conquered by Joshua (Josh 10:41; 11:16) and a town listed among Judah's allotments (Josh 15:51). All major translations preserve the name unchanged (spa 'Gosén/Goshén', fra 'Gosen', deu 'Goschen/Goshen').

Senses
1. Goshen (region/place name) The proper geographical name Goshen, referring primarily to the fertile Egyptian delta region where Israel settled during the sojourn (Gen 45:10; 46:28–29; 47:1–6; 50:8) and was miraculously spared from plagues (Exod 8:22; 9:26), and secondarily to a region and town in southern Judah (Josh 10:41; 11:16; 15:51). Cross-lingual glosses consistently transliterate the toponym with minimal variation, reflecting its universal recognition as a biblical place name. 15×
