Geshurite; a member of the people or territory of Geshur, east of the Jordan and Sea of Galilee
A gentilical adjective used as a substantive to designate the inhabitants of Geshur, a small Aramean kingdom east of the Sea of Galilee. The Geshurites appear in contexts describing territories that Israel did not conquer during the settlement period. Deuteronomy 3:14 and Joshua 13:11-13 note that the Geshurites and Maacathites remained unconquered among the Israelites. A second group bearing the same demonym appears near Philistine territory (Josh 13:2; cf. 1 Sam 27:8), though some scholars emend the text.

Senses
1. sense 1 The gentilic designation for the people of Geshur, a small Aramean territory bordering the northeastern shore of the Sea of Galilee. Used with the definite article (הַגְּשׁוּרִי), it functions as a collective noun for the population of that region. English consistently renders 'the Geshurite,' while Spanish offers both singular and plural forms ('el-gesureo,' 'la-de-los-gesureos'). Key passages include the note that the Geshurites dwelt among Israel unconquered (Josh 13:13) and the boundary descriptions in Deuteronomy 3:14 and Joshua 12:5.
