Gadite — a member of the Israelite tribe of Gad, used as a gentilic adjective and collective noun
The gentilic adjective derived from Gad, designating individuals or the collective body of the tribe of Gad. This tribe received its allotment in Transjordan — the territory east of the Jordan River — alongside the Reubenites and the half-tribe of Manasseh (Deut 3:12, 16; Josh 13:8). The Gadites were known as capable warriors: 1 Chronicles 12:8 describes them as men whose faces were like lions and who were swift as gazelles. They appear in military and administrative lists (1 Chr 5:18, 26; 12:37; 26:32; 2 Kgs 10:33) and in the covenant narrative of Deuteronomy 29:7. Spanish 'gadita' and English 'Gadite' transparently mark the tribal identity.

Senses
1. Gadite (gentilic) A gentilic term for a member of the tribe of Gad (גָּדִי), used both as an adjective and as a collective noun. The Gadites settled in Transjordan, receiving territory from Aroer northward (Deut 3:12, 16; Josh 12:6; 13:8). They figure as fierce warriors in David's service (1 Chr 12:8, 37) and in tribal census lists (1 Chr 5:18, 26). The term marks tribal identity in legal-covenantal contexts as well (Deut 4:43; 29:7; Josh 1:12; 22:1), and the cities of refuge legislation assigns specific cities to the Gadites (Deut 4:43). 16×
