Bath, a Hebrew unit of liquid measure (~22 liters), used for wine, oil, and other liquids.
A unit of liquid capacity in the ancient Israelite measurement system, equivalent to about 22 liters or 6 US gallons. It stood as the liquid counterpart to the dry ephah, both being one-tenth of a homer (Ezek 45:11, 14). Solomon's bronze sea held 2,000 baths (1 Kgs 7:26; 2 Chr 4:5), and his ten lavers each held 40 baths (1 Kgs 7:38). Isaiah 5:10 warns that ten acres of vineyard shall yield only one bath—a sign of divine judgment. Spanish 'batos' and French 'bath' preserve the Hebrew term nearly unchanged.

Senses
1. bath (unit of liquid measure) A standard Hebrew unit of liquid volume equal to approximately 22 liters, used to measure wine, oil, and water in commercial, liturgical, and agricultural contexts. Defined as one-tenth of a homer and equivalent to the dry ephah (Ezek 45:11, 14). Solomon's molten sea held 2,000 baths (1 Kgs 7:26; 2 Chr 4:5), and each of the ten lavers held 40 baths (1 Kgs 7:38). In Isaiah 5:10 the meager yield of one bath from ten acres signals covenant judgment. 13×
