Birthright or firstborn status; also firstlings of livestock offered to God
Rooted in the concept of the firstborn, this noun carries two distinct senses in Scripture. In its most frequent use, it denotes the birthright -- the legal privilege, double inheritance portion, and family leadership belonging to the eldest son, as dramatically illustrated in the Esau-Jacob narratives (Gen 25:31-34; 27:36). In a less common but liturgically significant sense, it refers to the firstborn offspring of livestock, the firstlings brought as sacred offerings to God (Gen 4:4; Deut 12:6).

2. firstlings, firstborn offspring — The firstborn young of livestock, offered as consecrated gifts to God. Here the morphology shifts to masculine plural construct (בְּכֹרֹת), and multilingual renderings diverge: English uses 'firstlings/firstborn of,' Spanish 'primogénitos de,' and German 'Erstgeborener von.'
