I (Aramaic) — first person singular independent pronoun in Biblical Aramaic
Anah is the Aramaic first person singular pronoun, the equivalent of Hebrew ani/anokhi. Its 13 occurrences are confined to the Aramaic portions of Daniel and Ezra, where it serves as the emphatic subject pronoun in royal and visionary discourse. Nebuchadnezzar uses it repeatedly in his decrees and dream narratives ('I, Nebuchadnezzar,' Dan 4:1, 15, 34), and Daniel employs it in recounting his visions ('I, Daniel,' Dan 7:15, 28). The pronoun also appears in Artaxerxes' decree in Ezra 7:21. Spanish 'yo,' French 'je,' German 'ich' — every translation renders it as a simple first person pronoun, confirming its purely grammatical function.

Senses
1. and The Aramaic first person singular independent pronoun, functioning as emphatic subject or as reinforcement of a pronominal suffix. Used in royal self-identification ('I, Nebuchadnezzar,' Dan 4:1, 15, 34), prophetic self-reference ('I was watching,' Dan 4:7; 'I, Daniel,' Dan 7:15, 28), and official decrees ('I make a decree,' Ezra 7:21). Cognate with Hebrew ani and Syriac ena. All 13 occurrences in Daniel and Ezra express the same pronominal function; conjunctive forms (wa-anah, 'and I') represent syntactic variation, not a separate sense. 13×
