Etán — nombre propio que significa 'perdurable'; especialmente Etán el ezraíta, célebre por su sabiduría.
Etán (que significa 'perdurable' o 'permanente') es conocido principalmente como Etán el ezraíta, cuya sabiduría solo fue superada por la de Salomón (1 Re 4:31), y a quien se atribuye el Salmo 89 en su encabezado. Aparece en las genealogías de 1 Crónicas como hijo de Zéraj (1 Cr 2:6) y como cantor levítico junto con Hemán y Asaf (1 Cr 6:42-44; 15:17, 19). Las traducciones en diversas lenguas conservan fielmente el nombre: 'Etán' en español y francés, 'Etan' en alemán.
