N-proper-ms  |  30× in 1 sense
Abiathar; a priest, son of Ahimelech, who served David faithfully but was banished by Solomon.
Abiathar ('the Great One is father') was the sole survivor when Saul massacred the priests at Nob (1 Sam 22:20). He fled to David bearing the ephod, becoming David's priestly counselor through the years of exile and kingship (1 Sam 23:6, 30:7). Together with Zadok, he carried the ark during Absalom's rebellion (2 Sam 15:24-29). His story ends in tragedy: he backed Adonijah's claim to the throne, and Solomon banished him to Anathoth (1 Kgs 2:26-27), fulfilling the prophecy against the house of Eli. The name appears consistently across languages as a transliteration.
