Gracia, favor o bondad — especialmente el favor inmerecido de Dios hacia la humanidad; también gratitud, acto concreto de buena voluntad o don.
Una de las palabras teológicamente más ricas del Nuevo Testamento, χάρις abarca desde la gracia divina que salva a los pecadores hasta la simple cortesía humana de dar las gracias. En su núcleo reside la idea de generosidad inmerecida — el favor pródigo de Dios derramado sobre quienes no tienen derecho alguno a reclamarlo (Jn 1:16; Ef 2:8). Pablo articula epístolas enteras en torno a esta palabra, y cada carta paulina se abre o se cierra con ella. Sin embargo, χάρις también cubre la gratitud cotidiana (Lc 6:32-34, '¿qué mérito tenéis?'), actos concretos de favor político (Hch 24:27) e incluso una colecta monetaria para los pobres (1 Co 16:3). El español distingue 'gracia' de 'gratitud'; el alemán traduce uniformemente Gnade, fusionando sentidos que el griego mantiene fluidos.

1. gracia, favor divino — El gran sentido teológico: el favor inmerecido y la benevolencia de Dios hacia la humanidad, especialmente manifestados a través de la obra salvadora de Cristo. Es el uso dominante en el NT (141 de 157 ocurrencias). El saludo paulino distintivo 'gracia y paz' (χάρις καὶ εἰρήνη) enmarca cada carta que Pablo escribe. 2. gracias, gratitud — Expresión de agradecimiento o gratitud, frecuentemente dirigida a Dios. Se distingue del sentido 1 por el contexto: '¿qué mérito (χάρις) tenéis?' (Lc 6:32-34) emplea la palabra en un marco de reciprocidad — si solo amáis a quienes os aman, ¿dónde está la gracia? Ro 6:17 ('gracias a Dios') y 1 Co 15:57 muestran el uso doxológico. 12×

3. favor, acto de bondad — Acto concreto de buena voluntad o disposición favorable de una persona hacia otra, especialmente en contextos políticos o judiciales. Las tres ocurrencias aparecen en Hechos: Félix deja a Pablo preso 'queriendo hacer un favor (χάριτα) a los judíos' (Hch 24:27); los líderes judíos piden a Festo el favor (χάριν) de trasladar a Pablo a Jerusalén (Hch 25:3, 9). 3×

Aparece una vez en 1 Corintios 16:3, donde Pablo instruye a la iglesia para que prepare su χάρις (don/beneficencia) para Jerusalén.
