N-NMS  |  7× in 1 sense
Simeon — a Hebrew proper name (from Shim'on) borne by several NT figures including the devout elder and the apostle Peter.
The indeclinable Greek form of the Hebrew name Shim'on (meaning 'hearing' or 'one who hears'), used in the NT for at least five distinct individuals. Most memorably, it names the aged worshipper in the temple who took the infant Jesus in his arms and pronounced the Nunc Dimittis (Luke 2:25, 34). It also designates Simeon called Niger in the Antioch church (Acts 13:1), and serves as the more Hebraic form of Simon Peter's name, as when James uses it at the Jerusalem council (Acts 15:14) and in the opening of 2 Peter.

Senses
1. Simeon (proper noun) A Hebrew proper name (Συμεών, from שִׁמְעוֹן) applied to several individuals in the NT: the devout elder who blessed the child Jesus in the temple (Luke 2:25, 34), an ancestor of Jesus in Luke's genealogy (Luke 3:30), Simeon called Niger at Antioch (Acts 13:1), and the apostle Peter under his Hebraic name (Acts 15:14; 2 Pet 1:1). All translations treat it as an indeclinable transliteration — Spanish 'Symeón,' French 'Siméon,' German 'Simeon' — preserving its Semitic origin distinct from the Hellenized Σίμων.
