Simeón — nombre propio hebreo (de שִׁמְעוֹן, 'el que oye') que llevan varios personajes del NT, incluido el anciano devoto y el apóstol Pedro.
Forma griega indeclinable del nombre hebreo שִׁמְעוֹן (que significa 'el que oye'), usada en el NT para al menos cinco individuos distintos. El más memorable es el anciano piadoso que tomó al niño Jesús en sus brazos en el templo y pronunció el Nunc Dimittis (Lc 2:25, 34). También designa a Simeón llamado Níger en la iglesia de Antioquía (Hch 13:1) y sirve como forma más hebraica del nombre de Simón Pedro, como cuando Santiago lo usa en el concilio de Jerusalén (Hch 15:14) y en la apertura de 2 Pedro.
