Carnal, de la carne; relativo a la naturaleza humana sin el Espíritu, o hecho de carne en contraste con lo espiritual.
Este adjetivo describe lo que pertenece a o se caracteriza por σάρξ (carne). Pablo lo usa de manera prominente al contrastar las realidades espirituales con las materiales. En 1 Corintios 3:1-3 reprende a los creyentes por ser σαρκίνοι —gobernados por impulsos carnales como los celos y las contiendas en lugar del Espíritu. Sin embargo, el término no siempre es peyorativo: en Romanos 15:27 y 1 Corintios 9:11 simplemente describe provisiones materiales —«cosas carnales» como el sustento económico— que son la contrapartida natural de las bendiciones espirituales. En 2 Corintios 1:12, Pablo contrasta la sabiduría carnal con la gracia de Dios.
