the prow or bow of a ship, the forepart that faces forward
A nautical term for the front end of a vessel. Both uses are in Acts 27, during Paul's shipwreck voyage. In verse 30, sailors lower the lifeboat pretending to lay out anchors from the bow (actually planning to abandon ship). In verse 41, the ship runs aground and the bow sticks fast while the stern breaks up under the waves. The term is purely technical, but the narrative context is theologically rich—God's promise to preserve all lives aboard is kept despite maritime disaster.

Sentidos
1. sense 1 The glosses ('bow,' 'proa,' 'proue') uniformly denote the ship's front. Acts 27:30 describes sailors' deception involving the bow (planning escape), while 27:41 narrates the bow lodging immovably as the stern disintegrates. The nautical detail serves Luke's larger purpose—showing God's sovereign protection of Paul and all aboard, even through violent shipwreck.
