Pilatos -- Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect of Judea who presided over the trial and crucifixion of Jesus
Pilatos (Pontius Pilate) is the proper name of the Roman prefect who governed Judea from approximately AD 26 to 36. His 55 New Testament occurrences concentrate in the Passion narratives, where he interrogates Jesus, offers to release Barabbas, washes his hands, and orders the crucifixion. Luke 3:1 dates John the Baptist's ministry by Pilate's governorship, and 1 Tim 6:13 preserves the creedal formula 'who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate.' His name entered the Apostles' Creed itself, making it one of the most theologically consequential proper nouns in the New Testament.
