V-IIM-3S  |  7× in 1 sense
To look around, gaze about; a deliberate sweeping glance at one's surroundings or companions.
A vivid Markan verb describing the intentional act of sweeping one's gaze around a group or setting. In the NT it appears exclusively in Mark's Gospel, always attributed to Jesus, lending it a characteristic dramatic quality. He looks around 'with anger' at the synagogue crowd (Mark 3:5), identifies 'who touched me' by scanning the crowd (Mark 5:32), and surveys the temple precincts on his arrival in Jerusalem (Mark 11:11). Spanish 'mirando alrededor' and French 'regarder autour' both preserve the circular spatial dimension of the gaze.

Senses
1. to look around, gaze about To look around, gaze about — a deliberate, sweeping act of visual survey directed at those nearby or at one's surroundings. Distinctively Markan in the NT (Mark 3:5, 3:34, 5:32, 9:8, 10:23, 11:11), it is used exclusively of Jesus and functions as a narrative device highlighting his authority and intentionality. In Mark 3:5 he looks around 'with anger,' in 5:32 he searches out who touched him, and in 11:11 he inspects the temple. Spanish 'mirando alrededor' and French 'regarder autour' both capture the circular, encompassing nature of the gaze.
