N-AMS  |  3× in 1 sense
Paradise; the garden of Eden; the abode of the blessed; a place of bliss and divine presence
Borrowed from Persian through Greek, this word originally meant an enclosed park or pleasure-ground of Persian kings, then came to denote the garden of Eden, and finally the dwelling place of the redeemed. Jesus promises the penitent thief, 'Today you will be with me in Paradise' (Luke 23:43). Paul describes being caught up to Paradise and hearing inexpressible words (2 Cor 12:4). The risen Christ promises the overcomer the right to eat from 'the tree of life in the paradise of God' (Rev 2:7). Each use evokes restoration of Edenic communion with God.
