ὅμως G3676
Conj  |  3× in 1 sense
nevertheless, yet, all the same, despite what precedes
This conjunction introduces a concessive or limiting clause—'nevertheless' or 'yet.' Many believed in Jesus but didn't confess him 'for fear'; John adds, 'Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed' (John 12:42). Paul says lifeless instruments need distinction in notes 'or how will anyone know...?' (1 Cor 14:7). He tells the Galatians that human covenants, once ratified, can't be annulled—'nevertheless' (Gal 3:15). The word marks contrast or qualification. French 'néanmoins/cependant' and Spanish 'sin embargo' capture the limiting force.

Senses
1. sense 1 Nevertheless, yet, all the same—a conjunction that introduces a limiting or concessive clause, qualifying what precedes. John 12:42 uses ὅμως to mark that despite fear, many authorities believed. 1 Corinthians 14:7 qualifies the instrument analogy. Galatians 3:15 introduces a legal principle with 'yet.' The term signals a turn or qualification: what follows stands despite or alongside what came before. French 'néanmoins/cependant' and Spanish 'sin embargo' are standard contrastive conjunctions matching this function.
