To transfer, transpose, change; to turn away or desert; to pervert or distort something into its opposite.
Metatithēmi carries the fundamental idea of placing something differently — moving it from one position to another. When applied physically, it describes the translation of Enoch (Heb 11:5) or the transfer of the patriarchs' bones to Shechem (Acts 7:16). Spanish trasladó and fue-trasladado perfectly capture this relocative sense. But the word extends powerfully into the moral and theological realm: Paul uses it of the Galatians 'turning away' (metatithesthe) from the gospel (Gal 1:6), and Jude deploys it for those who 'pervert' God's grace into licentiousness (Jude 1:4). The progression from physical transfer to theological distortion shows how Greek verbs of motion regularly develop figurative senses.
3. pervert, distort, twist To pervert or distort, twisting something into its opposite — especially of corrupting divine truth. In Jude 1:4, ungodly infiltrators are 'perverting' (metatithentes) the grace of God into licentiousness. French changeant and Spanish cambiando both render this as 'changing,' but the context demands the stronger sense of deliberate distortion — turning grace into its antithesis.

Senses
1. transfer, transport, translate (physically) To transfer or transport physically from one place to another — used of bodily relocation or divine translation. God 'translated' (metethēken) Enoch so he did not see death (Heb 11:5), and the patriarchs' remains 'were carried over' (metetethēsan) to Shechem (Acts 7:16). Spanish trasladó and fue-trasladado mirror this physical-transfer sense precisely, as does German versetzen ('to relocate').

2. change, turn away, desert To change allegiance or position, to turn away or desert — describing a shift from one loyalty or state to another. In Gal 1:6, Paul is astonished that the Galatians 'are turning' (metatithesthe) so quickly to a different gospel. Heb 7:12 uses it of a change in the priesthood necessitating a change in the law. Spanish os-transferís ('you transfer yourselves') captures the reflexive, volitional quality of this desertion.
