Fortalecer, robustecerse; ser fortalecido o vigorizado en cuerpo o espíritu.
Significa hacer fuerte o llegar a ser fortalecido, empleado tanto en sentido físico como espiritual. Lucas lo usa dos veces al describir el desarrollo infantil de Jesús: el niño «se fortalecía» (Lc 1:80; 2:40), evocando una maduración vigorosa e integral. Pablo lo aplica al fortalecimiento espiritual: como imperativo a los corintios, «sed fuertes» (1 Co 16:13), y como oración para que los creyentes sean «fortalecidos con poder en el hombre interior» (Ef 3:16). La forma reflexiva «fortaleceos» capta la cualidad participativa de este robustecimiento.
