N-DFS  |  1× in 1 sense
A scroll, roll of writing material, or rolled document
This diminutive of 'head' came to mean the knob on a scroll's roller, then the scroll itself. Hebrews 10:7 quotes Psalm 40, 'in the scroll of the book it is written of me,' with Christ speaking of messianic prophecy recorded in Scripture. The Spanish 'rollo' and German 'Buchrolle' both emphasize the rolled form. This image connects Christ's coming to written prophetic testimony requiring unrolling and reading.

Senses
1. sense 1 Refers to a rolled book or scroll, the standard form of written documents in antiquity. In the Hebrews quotation, this 'scroll of the book' represents the accumulated scriptural witness that points forward to Messiah, which Christ claims as his own divine script—he comes to fulfill what has been written.
