Instruir oralmente, catequizar; informar o comunicar — la raíz del castellano 'catecismo'
El verbo κατηχέω significaba originalmente 'resonar desde arriba', pero en el siglo I se había asentado en dos usos distintos: la instrucción oral sistemática y la transmisión de información. En Lucas 1:4, Lucas escribe para que Teófilo conozca la certeza de las cosas en las que fue 'catequizado', y en Gálatas 6:6 el que es 'instruido' comparte con quien le enseña. De esta palabra derivan los términos castellanos 'catecismo', 'catequesis' y 'catequizar', que conservan el sentido de instrucción religiosa metódica. Un uso más restringido en Hechos 21 significa simplemente ser informado o enterado de algo.
Sentidos
1. Instruir, enseñar la fe — Dar instrucción oral y sistemática en la verdad o doctrina religiosa — el sentido catequético clásico. Es el uso dominante en el NT (6 de 8 apariciones), visible en Lucas 1:4, donde Teófilo fue 'instruido' en la fe, en Hechos 18:25, donde Apolos había sido 'enseñado' en el camino del Señor, y en Gálatas 6:6, donde el 'catequizado' comparte con su catequista. 6×

2. Informar, dar noticia — Informar, comunicar o transmitir noticias — en voz pasiva, ser enterado de algo. Este sentido aparece exclusivamente en Hechos 21:21 y 21:24, donde los creyentes judíos de Jerusalén 'han sido informados' de que Pablo enseña a los judíos entre los gentiles a abandonar a Moisés. El español pasa de 'instruido' (sentido 1) a 'han sido informados', reflejando claramente el cambio semántico. 2×
