V-PIA-3S  |  8× in 1 sense
To cover, hide, or veil; to place something over so as to conceal, protect, or envelop from sight.
Kalupto means to cover or conceal by placing something over or around an object or person. In the Gospels it describes the sea waves covering a boat (Matt 8:24), a lamp being covered with a vessel (Luke 8:16), and the terrified plea for mountains to fall and cover people (Luke 23:30). Paul uses it of the gospel being veiled to those who are perishing (2 Cor 4:3). The Spanish 'cubierto' and French 'couvrir' both descend from the same Latin root as English 'cover,' reinforcing the consistent core meaning across all eight New Testament occurrences.

Senses
1. cover, hide, veil To place a covering over something so as to hide, conceal, or shield it from view. Used literally of waves engulfing a boat (Matt 8:24) and figuratively of spiritual concealment, as when Paul says the gospel is 'covered' (veiled) to the perishing (2 Cor 4:3). The multilingual glosses — English 'cover,' Spanish 'cubierto,' French 'couvrir' — uniformly confirm a single semantic core of physical or metaphorical concealment.
