Judío; Judea — adjetivo que denota identidad judía, usado sustantivado para designar a un judío o geográficamente para la región de Judea
En el Nuevo Testamento, Ἰουδαῖος identifica a alguien como perteneciente al pueblo judío — étnica, religiosamente o ambas cosas. Aparece casi 200 veces, especialmente en el Evangelio de Juan, donde a menudo designa a los dirigentes jerosolimitanos en contraste con Jesús y sus seguidores. El término conlleva un rico peso teológico: se trata del pueblo de la alianza de Dios, por medio del cual viene la salvación (Jn 4:22). En un caso (Jn 3:22), la forma femenina se refiere geográficamente a Judea, la tierra ancestral. Las traducciones distinguen sistemáticamente el uso personal («judío») del geográfico («Judea»), confirmando la diferencia semántica.

1. judío, persona judía — Una persona identificada como judía por etnia, religión o pertenencia a la alianza. Se emplea sustantivado en todos los casos, números y géneros. La traducción interlingüística es prácticamente unánime: «judíos» (esp.), Juifs (fr.), Juden (al.). 2. Judea, región judía — Referencia geográfica a Judea (ἡ Ἰουδαία, sc. γῆ), la región meridional de Palestina asociada con la tribu de Judá. En Jn 3:22, Jesús va «a la tierra de Judea» (εἰς τὴν Ἰουδαίαν γῆν), y las traducciones al español («Judea») y al alemán (Judäa) distinguen este sentido territorial del étnico. Se preserva el patrón del griego clásico donde el adjetivo femenino con un sustantivo sobreentendido (γῆ) funciona como topónimo. 1×
