Jephthah was a judge of Israel whose story appears in Judges 11-12. Born to a prostitute, he was driven from his family but later called back to lead Israel against Ammon. He made a tragic vow to sacrifice whatever first came from his house upon victory, resulting in his daughter's sacrifice. Despite this, he is remembered as a deliverer whom God used.
