Lamentarse, plañir o entonar un canto fúnebre; lamento vocal ritualizado por los muertos o por el duelo
Derivado del sustantivo θρῆνος (canto fúnebre), este verbo designa el lamento formal y vocal propio de los funerales y las expresiones públicas de duelo. Jesús lo emplea en la parábola de los niños en la plaza que se quejan: 'les cantamos endechas y no lamentasteis' (Mt 11:17; Lc 7:32), subrayando la respuesta social esperada ante la muerte. Las mujeres del camino al Calvario θρηνέω por Jesús (Lc 23:27), y él advierte a los discípulos que su dolor será real mientras el mundo se alegra (Jn 16:20). El español 'lamentar' y 'plañir' captan la cualidad sostenida y vocal de este tipo de duelo.
