Tinieblas densas, oscuridad profunda; la negrura lóbrega del inframundo o del juicio divino
Designa una oscuridad espesa y opresiva asociada con el pavor y el castigo divino. A diferencia del simple anochecer, esta palabra evoca la lobreguez primordial del inframundo; Homero la empleaba para el reino del Hades. En el Nuevo Testamento aparece exclusivamente en contextos de juicio escatológico: cadenas de tinieblas, la más densa oscuridad reservada para los impíos. Su gravedad poética la hace mucho más pesada que los términos comunes para la oscuridad, transmitiendo un horror envolvente y absoluto.
