Este verbo compuesto posee un amplio rango de significados en el griego clásico —agitar, reconducir, restaurar—, pero en el Nuevo Testamento aparece exclusivamente en contextos náuticos, con el sentido de hacerse a la mar o regresar en barca. Lucas lo utiliza tres veces: Jesús volviendo de Betania (Mateo 21:18), apartándose un poco de la orilla (Lucas 5:3) y la célebre orden de navegar mar adentro (Lucas 5:4). El verbo capta el movimiento de embarcaciones alejándose de la costa o regresando al puerto.

1. Navegar o volver — Las traducciones reflejan lenguaje náutico: en español «navegar, alejarse, volviendo», en francés «avancer». Mateo 21:18 describe a Jesús «volviendo» a la ciudad.
