1. idol, image of a false god — A physical representation or image of a deity that is worshipped, used in NT passages condemning pagan worship and warning believers against idolatry (Acts 7:41, 15:20; Rom 2:22; 1 Cor 8:4, 8:7, 10:19, 12:2; 2 Cor 6:16; 1 Thess 1:9; 1 John 5:21; Rev 9:20). The two clusters differ only in number: plural (S66340: spa 'idolos', hin 'murtiyon' मूर्तियों, arb 'al-asnami/al-awthani' الأَصنامِ/الأَوثانِ, kor 'usangdeul' 우상들, swa 'sanamu') versus singular (S66341: spa 'idolo', hin 'murti' मूर्ति, arb 'wathanun/sanamun' وَثَنٌ/صَنَمٌ, kor 'usangi' 우상이, swa 'sanamu'). Swahili 'sanamu' is identical for both, and Arabic shows only number inflection, confirming one sense. 11×
