Timna; an Edomite name borne by a concubine of Eliphaz, a Horite sister of Lotan, and an Edomite chief.
Timna is an Edomite name used for both male and female figures in the genealogies of Genesis 36 and 1 Chronicles 1. As a woman, Timna was the sister of Lotan the Horite (Gen 36:22; 1 Chr 1:39) and the concubine of Eliphaz son of Esau, by whom she bore Amalek (Gen 36:12). As a male name, Timna appears as one of the chiefs (alluphim) of Edom (Gen 36:40; 1 Chr 1:51). In 1 Chronicles 1:36, Timna is listed among the sons of Eliphaz, apparently conflating the concubine tradition with a tribal-name reading. The Septuagint consistently renders the name as Thamna.

Senses
1. Timna The proper name Timna, designating multiple Edomite figures: (a) the Horite woman who was Lotan's sister (Gen 36:22; 1 Chr 1:39) and concubine of Eliphaz, mother of Amalek (Gen 36:12); (b) an Edomite chief (Gen 36:40; 1 Chr 1:51); and (c) a figure listed among Eliphaz's descendants in 1 Chronicles 1:36, likely reflecting a tribal rather than individual reading. Spanish Timna, French Timna, and German Timna transliterate consistently. The LXX Thamna confirms the ancient pronunciation. The overlap of personal and tribal identity is characteristic of Edomite genealogical lists.
