A Hebrew proper name meaning 'seven' or 'oath,' borne by at least two distinct individuals in the Old Testament. The most prominent is Sheba son of Bichri, a Benjaminite who led an insurrection against David after Absalom's revolt, rallying the northern tribes with the cry 'We have no share in David!' (2 Sam 20:1). His rebellion was quelled when the wise woman of Abel Beth-Maacah arranged his execution. A second Sheba appears in a Gadite genealogy (1 Chr 5:13). German 'und-sieben' interestingly reflects the underlying meaning of the name itself.
