Shebanyah -- a Levitical proper name borne by priests and Levites in post-exilic Judah
Shebanyah (also spelled Shebanyahu with the longer divine-name suffix) is a proper name borne by several Levites and priests in the post-exilic period. A priest named Shebanyahu blew the trumpet before the ark when David brought it to Jerusalem (1 Chr 15:24). Later, multiple individuals with this name appear in the Nehemiah narrative: Levites who led public confession and prayer (Neh 9:4-5), and signatories to the covenant renewal (Neh 10:4, 10, 12). The name may mean 'Yahweh has made to grow' or 'Yahweh has restored.' Spanish Sebanias, French Schebania, and German Schebanja all preserve the same proper noun with minor phonological adaptation.

Senses
1. Shebaniah (person name) The proper name Shebanyah/Shebanyahu, identifying several Levites and priests in post-exilic Israel: a trumpet-blowing priest at the ark procession (1 Chr 15:24), Levites leading communal prayer and confession (Neh 9:4-5), and covenant-renewal signatories (Neh 10:4, 10, 12). The Septuagint variants Sabanias and Sebanias reflect the name's phonological instability in Greek transcription. Spanish Sebanias, French Schebania, and German Schebanja all represent a single proper-noun identity with no semantic subdivision warranted.
