Shebna, a high-ranking royal official (palace steward and later secretary) under King Hezekiah of Judah.
The proper name of a prominent government official during King Hezekiah's reign, attested in both Isaiah and 2 Kings. Shebna first appears as the man 'over the house'—the palace steward, effectively prime minister—whom Isaiah rebukes for carving himself an ostentatious tomb (Isa 22:15). He later appears in a reduced role as secretary alongside Eliakim during the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem (2 Kgs 18:18, 37; Isa 36:3, 22).
