This is a place name, one of the fortified cities in Naphtali's allotment (Joshua 19:35). Jewish tradition later identified it with Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee's western shore, though this identification remains uncertain. The Septuagint's variant spellings reflect ancient uncertainty about the exact location. As a fortified city, Rakkath would have been strategically important in Naphtali's northern territory, helping secure the tribe's holdings.
