Rezin, king of Aram-Damascus who allied with Pekah against Judah in the Syro-Ephraimite crisis
The name of the last independent king of Aram-Damascus, whose fateful alliance with Pekah of Israel against Judah triggered one of the Old Testament's most consequential prophetic moments. When Rezin and Pekah marched on Jerusalem to replace Ahaz with a puppet king, the terrified Judean court received Isaiah's Immanuel prophecy — 'the Lord himself will give you a sign' (Isa 7:1–14). Ahaz instead appealed to Assyria; Tiglath-pileser III responded by conquering Damascus and killing Rezin (2 Kgs 16:9), ending centuries of Aramean independence.
