Rogelim, town in Gilead; home of Barzillai the benefactor
Rogelim was a town in the Transjordan region of Gilead, notable as the home of Barzillai the Gileadite. When David fled from Absalom, Barzillai came from Rogelim bringing provisions to sustain the king and his followers (2 Samuel 17:27). Later, the aged Barzillai came from Rogelim to accompany David across the Jordan as the king returned to Jerusalem (19:31). The name possibly relates to fullers or those who tread cloth. Rogelim represents loyal support from the Transjordan during David's greatest crisis.
Senses
1. sense 1 — The transliterations are consistent: 'Rogelim/Roguelim' with the prepositional prefix 'from.' Both 2 Samuel passages identify Barzillai by his hometown Rogelim (17:27, 19:31), establishing geographical identity for this wealthy, loyal supporter. The town's name appears only in connection with Barzillai's assistance to David during Absalom's rebellion, making it synonymous with faithful support when the kingdom seemed lost. 2×
