Qorach is a proper masculine name, possibly derived from qareach ('bald'), borne by several distinct figures whose stories span rebellion, worship, and genealogy. The most famous is Korah son of Izhar, the Levite who led a revolt against Moses and Aaron, challenging their exclusive authority with the words 'all the congregation is holy' (Num 16:3). The earth swallowed him and his fellow conspirators in a dramatic divine judgment (Num 16:31-35), yet — strikingly — 'the sons of Korah did not die' (Num 26:11). These surviving descendants became a celebrated guild of temple singers, credited in the superscriptions of eleven psalms (Pss 42, 44-49, 84-85, 87-88), including some of the Psalter's most beloved poetry. The name also appears among Esau's descendants as an Edomite clan chief (Gen 36:5, 14, 16, 18; 1 Chr 1:35) and as a Judahite 'son' of Hebron (1 Chr 2:43).
