Keilah — a fortified city in the Shephelah of Judah, famous as the site David rescued from the Philistines
Keilah was a walled city in the lowlands of Judah, about eight miles northwest of Hebron. Its most dramatic biblical episode is David's rescue of the city from a Philistine grain raid (1 Sam 23:1–13), after which God warned David that Keilah's citizens would betray him to Saul, prompting his departure. The city appears in Joshua's tribal allotment for Judah (Josh 15:44) and again in Nehemiah among those who repaired sections of Jerusalem's wall (Neh 3:17–18). It may correspond to the Tell el-Amarna city Qiltu.

Listed among Judah's towns in Joshua 15:44 and among post-exilic districts contributing to Nehemiah's wall rebuilding (Neh 3:17–18). Possibly identified with modern Khirbet Qila and the Amarna-era Qiltu. 18×
