1. to be slain (passive) — To be slain or killed (passive voice), the Pe'il and Hitpe'el stems of the Aramaic verb in Daniel. In the Pe'il passive used for Belshazzar being slain (Dan 5:30) and the fourth beast being killed (Dan 7:11), and in the Hitpe'el reflexive-passive as a participle describing the wise men being put to death (Dan 2:13) and as an infinitive expressing the purpose of their execution (Dan 2:13). 2. to slay, kill (active) — To slay or kill (active voice), an Aramaic verb occurring exclusively in the book of Daniel. In the Pe'al stem as an active participle describing Nebuchadnezzar's absolute power of life and death (Dan 5:19 'whom he would he killed'), and in the Pa'el (intensive) stem both as a perfect describing the execution of those cast into the furnace (Dan 3:22) and as an infinitive denoting intent to kill the wise men of Babylon (Dan 2:14).
