Zorah; a Danite city in the Shephelah of Judah, birthplace of Samson and staging ground for the Danite migration.
Zorah (also Tsorah or Tzorah) was a town in the Shephelah about fifteen miles west of Jerusalem, assigned to both Judah (Josh 15:33) and Dan (Josh 19:41). It is best known as the home of Manoah, Samson's father (Judg 13:2), and the place where the Spirit of the LORD first began to stir the young Samson (Judg 13:25). Samson was buried there between Zorah and Eshtaol (Judg 16:31). The town also served as the launching point for the Danite spies and migration (Judg 18:2, 8, 11), and Rehoboam later fortified it (2 Chr 11:10).
