Ziz, the name of an ascent near the Dead Sea
This place name appears in 2 Chronicles 20:16, referring to an ascent or pass used by invading armies approaching from the Dead Sea region. The 'ascent of Ziz' was the route by which Moabites and Ammonites came up against Jehoshaphat. Buhl's geography identifies it with Wady Ḥaṣâṣâ and the plateau Ḥaṣâṣâ north of En-gedi. The Septuagint renderings vary, but the location is clearly a recognized geographical feature in Judean topography.
