V-Qal-QalPassPrtcpl-fp  |  2× in 1 sense
to open, be opened; an Aramaic verb describing books or windows being opened
This Aramaic verb appears in Daniel's visions describing things being opened. Daniel prays at his windows which were opened toward Jerusalem, maintaining his Jewish practice despite the king's decree. Later, in the throne room vision, books are opened before the Ancient of Days for judgment. The word is the Aramaic equivalent of Hebrew 'patach,' and conveys the simple act of opening something that was closed, whether literal windows or metaphorical books of divine record.

Senses
1. sense 1 Both instances occur in Daniel's Aramaic sections: the opened windows toward Jerusalem where Daniel prayed (6:10) and the opened books before God's throne (7:10). The multilingual glosses consistently render this as 'open' or 'opened'—Spanish has 'abiertas' and 'fueron-abiertos,' French 'ouvrir.' The participles describe states of openness: Daniel's windows stood open as an act of faithful defiance, while the heavenly books were opened to reveal the record of human deeds before the divine Judge.
