This Persian name belongs to one of the ten sons of Haman executed by the Jews during the events of Purim. The name appears only in Esther 9:9 in a list of Haman's sons, all killed on the thirteenth of Adar when the Jews defended themselves against their enemies. The etymology is uncertain, though like other names in the list it appears to be authentically Persian. After Haman's plot was exposed and he was hanged, Esther requested that his ten sons also be executed and their bodies publicly displayed, both as justice for their father's genocidal plot and as a deterrent against future antisemitic violence.
