Purah, Gideon's servant who accompanied him to spy on the Midianite camp (Judges 7:10-11)
Purah was the servant or armor-bearer who went with Gideon on a nighttime reconnaissance mission to the Midianite camp. God told Gideon to take Purah along if he was afraid to attack alone (Judges 7:10-11). Together they overheard the Midianite's dream interpretation, which encouraged Gideon before his famous three-hundred-man victory.
Senses
1. sense 1 — A personal name borne by Gideon's servant/companion during the Midianite crisis. The cross-linguistic glosses (Spanish 'Purah,' French 'Purah') show consistent transliteration with the conjunction 'and' attached. Both Judges 7 references describe the same event—Gideon's night visit to the enemy camp. Purah's presence shows that even great acts of faith sometimes need a companion for courage. 2×
