Punon, a wilderness station between Petra and the Dead Sea (Numbers 33:42-43)
Punon was a stopping place during Israel's wilderness journey, the second station after leaving Mount Hor. Located in Edomite territory between Petra and the southern Dead Sea, it was famous in antiquity for copper mines. The site appears in the Greek as Phinon or Phainon and may be connected to the Edomite name Pinon.

Senses
1. sense 1 A geographical location in Edom where Israel camped during the wilderness wanderings. The multilingual glosses preserve the toponym with slight variations (Spanish 'Punón,' French 'Punon'), showing transliteration practices across target languages. Both Numbers 33 references describe arrival at and departure from this location, using the prepositions 'from' and 'in.'
