Irad (personal name: a descendant of Cain in the antediluvian genealogy)
Irad is a name in the Cainite genealogy of Genesis 4:18, appearing twice in that verse (once as the son of Enoch, once as the father of Mehujael). The Septuagint renders it Γαιδαδ. The name's etymology is uncertain, and it appears only in this brief genealogical context. All modern translations simply transliterate the Hebrew.

Senses
1. sense 1 A personal name in the line of Cain (Genesis 4:18, appearing twice in the verse). The double occurrence reflects the genealogical formula ('X begat Y, and Y begat Z'). All target languages transliterate the name uniformly, treating it as a proper noun without etymological comment.
