Elam (II) — personal and clan name for several post-exilic families; distinct from the nation Elam
This עֵילָם (Elam II) is a personal and clan name distinct from the well-known nation east of Babylon. It designates several individuals and the families descended from them who appear primarily in post-exilic return lists. Two separate 'sons of Elam' groups returned from Babylon — one numbering 1,254 (Ezra 2:7; Neh 7:12) and another called 'the other Elam' numbering 1,254 as well (Ezra 2:31; Neh 7:34). Members of the Elam clan were among those who had married foreign wives (Ezra 10:2, 26). A Benjaminite Elam appears in 1 Chronicles 8:24, a gatekeeper son of Kore in 1 Chronicles 26:3, and a leader who sealed the covenant in Nehemiah 10:14.

Senses
1. Elam (proper noun, person/clan) A personal and clan name for Israelite families in the post-exilic period, distinct from the Mesopotamian nation Elam. A Benjaminite named Elam appears in 1 Chronicles 8:24, a Levitical gatekeeper in 1 Chronicles 26:3, and a covenant-sealer and processional participant in Nehemiah 10:14 and 12:42. Spanish 'Elam' and English 'Elam' both transliterate identically to the national name, requiring context to distinguish. 11×
