Adin; name of a family head among the returning exiles and a post-exilic leader
Adin is the name of at least two individuals in the post-exilic period. First, he was the head of a family that returned from Babylonian exile with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:15//Nehemiah 7:20), with additional family members returning later with Ezra (Ezra 8:6). Second, an Adin appears as one of the chiefs who sealed Nehemiah's covenant (Nehemiah 10:16). The name may mean "delicate" or "pleasure." Greek versions render it as Αδ(δ)ιν or Ηδ(ε)ιν.
