1. storm, rage, be tempest-tossed (Qal/Nifal/Pual) Intransitive and passive forms meaning 'to storm, rage, be tossed by a storm,' describing either literal meteorological fury or a person agitated like a tempest. In Nah 1:3 the LORD has His way 'in storm (w'so'er)'; in Jonah 1:11, 1:13 the sea 'was storming (w'so'er/w'so'er)'; in Isa 54:11 Jerusalem is addressed as 'storm-tossed (so'arah)' one; in 2 Kgs 6:11 the king of Aram 'was stormy/enraged (wayyissa'er)'; in Hab 3:14 enemies 'stormed (yis'aru) in to scatter.'
