Sennacherib; king of Assyria (705–681 BCE) who invaded Judah during Hezekiah's reign.
The Akkadian name Sin-ahhe-eriba means 'Sin (the moon god) has replaced the brothers,' reflecting Assyrian royal naming conventions. Sennacherib succeeded his father Sargon II and is remembered in biblical history primarily for his campaign against Judah in 701 BCE (2 Kgs 18:13–19:37; Isa 36–37; 2 Chr 32). His siege of Jerusalem ended dramatically when the angel of the LORD struck down 185,000 Assyrian troops in a single night. Sennacherib was later assassinated by his own sons while worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch (2 Kgs 19:36–37). Multilingual renderings consistently transliterate the name with minor variation: Spanish 'Senaquerib,' French 'Sanchérib.'

Senses
