Ezra 7:17 lists the offerings to be purchased with royal Persian funds for the Jerusalem temple: bulls, rams, lambs, together with their grain offerings and their drink offerings. Drink offerings (nesek) typically consisted of wine poured out at the altar, accompanying animal and grain sacrifices. The Aramaic plural with suffix 'their drink offerings' indicates each sacrifice had its prescribed liquid component. That a Persian king's treasury financed Israelite worship demonstrates both Cyrus's policy of supporting local cults and God's sovereignty over foreign rulers who unknowingly funded the worship of the one true God.
